The original Wishing Tree was a Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) planted from a seedling around 1816 when Lachlan Macquarie was the Governor of NSW. That tree died in 1945 and was replaced by the one you see now. It is a popular attraction with signage to explain the ritual of walking around the tree forwards and backwards to make your dreams come true.
