For more than 30 years, Arts Centre Melbourne has been Melbourne's leading venue for world-class theatre, dance, music and more. In the Theatres Building, directly under the venue's iconic Spire, are three separate theatres – the Ian Potter State Theatre, which boasts the largest stage in the Southern Hemisphere and hosts performances by Opera Australia and The Australian Ballet, the Playhouse and the intimate Fairfax Studio.

On the banks of the Yarra River, Hamer Hall is a premier venue for musical performances, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is popular for open-air concerts. The Australian Museum of Performing Arts (AMPA), opened in 2025, hosts exclusive exhibitions celebrating performing arts history and iconic objects.

Begin at Hamer Hall, Melbourne's premier venue for orchestral performance, where six levels of opulent gold and amber interiors await. Step inside the exclusive Truscott Lounge, then peek into the grand, cave-like auditorium - designed to reflect Australia's gemstone deposits. Then cross to the Theatres Building, home to three of Melbourne's most beloved theatres. Journey through richly textured foyers and grand performance spaces in hues of ruby and mauve. Each foyer space and auditorium has its own distinguishing features to enhance one's journey to a show. Highlights of the Public Art Collection - revealing the intersection between the visual and the performing arts - are included on the tour. Home to The Australian Ballet, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Theatre Company and Opera Australia. Located in Hamer Hall, their Collection Store Tour offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the renowned Australian Performing Arts Collection. Featuring a selection of original objects from more than 850,000 items spanning circus, dance, music, opera and theatre, these tours provide a unique opportunity to explore the Collection and learn more about the performers, creatives and companies that have helped make Australian performing arts history. Learn how Art Centre Melbourne's curators have worked closely with the performing arts industry to develop the Collection since its inception in the 1970s. Hear about the stories behind the objects and discover what it takes to expertly manage their preservation and prepare them for display. Led by our knowledgeable guides, you'll get an up-close look at the Collection — including props, costumes, set models, puppets, designs and more. See a range of items such as Margot Fonteyn's pointe shoes, Peter Allen's maracas, Dame Edna's collection of spectacles, alongside circus apparatus and intricately made headpieces for the opera stage, and more.
