Dame Nellie Melba, once the most famous woman in the world, chose Coombe Cottage as her Australian home in 1909. This sixty-acre dairy farm was renamed after a house she rented in England while performing at Covent Garden. Coombe Cottage remains the private residence of Melba’s family and was the home of her granddaughter, Pamela Lady Vestey, until her passing in 2011. Coombe Cottage Tour: Take a guided walking tour through Coombe Cottage with our Melba historian to discover the extravagant life of this iconic diva. Begin in the grand Entrance Hall and move through the elegant Dining Room, set as if for a private dinner party. Admire the beauty, elegance, and timeless style of her bedroom and the grand music room, where Melba sang her favourite arias and hosted magnificent parties.

Seven acres of stunning gardens, landscaped over one hundred years ago, provide an evocative and romantic setting for weddings, photographs and private events. Behind the six hundred metres of cypress hedge lie a succession of terraced lawns, native, Italian and vegetable gardens, a croquet lawn, an old tennis court, a newly established rose arbour and the oldest swimming pool in Victoria. The gardens contain rare plants and beautiful old world trees, including an English oak rumoured to be over 180 years old. When attending Melba's Garden Walk please note; the walk is a guided walking tour of Dame Nellie Melba’s garden. The tour takes approximately one hour. The walking route follows an unsealed and sometimes uneven pathway. It is not undercover and there are no toilets along the route. Melba's Garden is only able to be accessed via a guided tour only. Bookings are essential. Melba's Garden is closed on all Public Holidays.
