Spend an unforgettable day with friends at Walhalla Goldfields Railway. Relax and take in the breathtaking views as the train winds its way through the spectacular Stringers Gorge on what is considered one of the country’s most picturesque rail journeys.
Departing the historic Walhalla Station on your one-hour journey you will travel through the station yards with the sheer, stunning cliff face on one side and the winding Stringers Creek on the other side.
Winding through the gorge past Happy Creek Station on your way towards Thomson Station you cross seven bridges which in themselves are a marvel of engineering before reaching the spectacular Thomson River bridge.
Upon arrival at Thomson Station passengers disembark and have the opportunity to peruse the station and surroundings before re-boarding for your return journey.
For train buffs they also offer a Ride in the Cab Experience; for a small extra fee. Get up front and experience a different perspective from the vantage point of the locomotive cab. See the amazing track work and bridges and chat to the knowledgeable crew along the way.
Make Walhalla Goldfields Railway your next day out. Trains depart Walhalla Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday weekly and daily during school holidays.

Travelled as a group of 6 + a dog and we loved it! Very scenic and stunning experience. We were greeted at Thompson with bagpipes and gorgeous sunshine! Have recommended to a few friends already who all love the journey. Will definitely be back!

Walhalla is a historic gold mining town. It took us almost 2 hrs to reach from south east of Melbourne. We went there especially for the train ride and it was worth it, make sure to book the tickets in advance. There are few things to explore, but due to the time constraints we couldn't cover much. I was later told that if you want to experience the nature's colour, visit Walhalla in autumn 🍂 and you be mesmerised by Nature's beauty.
On our way back to Melbourne, we stopped at Moe for barbie. It was great place, especially if you are with kids, as it had a huge playground with lots of swings. Barbie was in a shed too with lots of place to sit.Aldi and coles was nearby. Overall,it was great experience.

Awesome activity for the family in a gorgeous part of the country! The volunteers (it’s completely run by volunteers!) are the friendliest people ever and so knowledgeable about the local area. There’s even wifi so you can connect and listen to commentary on your headphones (so remember to pack a set). Definitely pre-book tickets and arrive early as it’s best to get a seat on the far side of the train as that has the best views.

A beautiful, small, cozy town in Victoria. Went on a slightly cold sunny day and it was perfect. I guess it would be a perfect getaway in autumn.

What an amazing day out! All the staff were very helpful, answered all our questions especially from our inquisitive kids, they let our kids ring the bell 🔔 before the train departed, they even guided us to have a family photo in the front drivers cabin with the kids, stunning waterfall along the way and the views in general were beautiful, Steve (I think his name was) was very informative and friendly, all staff were great, the whole experience was 5 stars 🌟 Thankyou for helping us create a great family day out, highly recommend checking this out ! 😍
