Their kayak tour begins at Mooney Mooney, paddling into the wide, tidal reaches of Dyarubbin (the Hawkesbury River) to enjoy the many histories associated with this ancient trading route. Along the way, we pass the wreck of HMAS Parramatta and share insights into Milson Island and pull into Bar Island to explore middens, a cemetery, and the ruins of an early church. Turning into Marramarra Creek 'Mother Marrs Creek' the landscape softens into sheltered bushland and calm waters. As the creek narrows and winds upstream, paddle on to your campground, where you will rest among the remnants of early settler orchards—an evocative setting to dine, camp, and reflect on the day's journey.
Waking to the quiet rhythms of Marramarra Creek the morning is spent exploring upstream keeping watch for cormorants, herons, egrets and perhaps a flash of the diving azure kingfisher. On the return journey you will pull in at secluded beaches and with shifting light offering a new perspective on Lower Hawkesbury River landscapes.
