The South West Rocks Dive Centre is family-owned and operated and has been conducting daily charter dives to Fish Rock since 1980. Catering to all levels of experience, friendly staff will ensure your visit to South West Rocks is relaxing and enjoyable.
The thrill of entering a 125-metre-long cave and travelling right through the centre of a small island is one dive that you will not want to miss. As well as the cave itself, Fish Rock is home to such an amazing array of marine life that you will easily understand how the island came to be named.
This is a dive location that must be included in your dive itinerary!

Fish Rock is a critical habitat area for the Grey Nurse sharks, which live here in large numbers all year round. Created by a fault in the island, Fish Rock Cave runs from the deeper seaward entrance at 24 metres, 125 metres through the rock emerging into the blue, fish-filled, silhouetted shallower entrance fringed by pink gorgonian corals at 12 metres. Gear up commences at the dive shop around 7.30am. Return to the shop around 1pm after the double dive.
Very well run centre and I'm very impressed with the crew. One of the best dive ever in my life 🤙🤙🤙. Honest opinion from WA. You see big pelagic marine life as well as macro all in the same place. I only included a few of my many great footage I took.
Alright! Here’s my review for South West Rocks Dive Centre!! This was my first time diving in Australia with a friend, and what impressed me most about this dive centre was how lively, warm, and genuinely enthusiastic everyone is. On my very first dive, I panicked a little before descending because I wasn’t used to a 7mm wetsuit and the water was really cold. My guide Cody was incredibly patient—he waited with me, calmly helped me slow my breathing, and only then we descended. That support meant a lot. Back on the boat after the first dive, I was shaking uncontrollably from the cold. I couldn’t even focus on what people were saying. The captain immediately poured warm water into my wetsuit to help prevent hypothermia. Not only the captain and my guide—even the other guides kept checking on me, and when I finally snapped back enough to hear their concern, my body was freezing and my brain could barely function… but my heart felt so warm. Before the second dive, I really wanted to give up because of the temperature. The captain looked at me and said, “You came all the way from Taiwan—are you really going home like this?” 😛 I told him, “I can come back next time,” but somehow I still put my gear on and told myself: I’m a mentally strong diver! I love diving! (While saying that, I also felt like I was about to throw up 😂) Then the captain went, “Hurry—you scare me!” 🤣 They’re seriously so adorable. After the second dive, I was basically passed out again, and everyone on the same boat never stopped caring and checking on me. Honestly… what kind of angel dive buddies and staff are these?! Then we left and headed to Coffs Harbour. The next day, I realized my regulator was still at South West Rocks 😱 We contacted them and were prepared to drive an hour back to pick it up, but the captain said, “Oh don’t worry—Cody will pass by on his way home. I’ll ask him to bring it to you!” …I was so touched I could’ve knelt down and cried 😭 During the whole process, Cody stayed in contact with us to confirm a time to hand it to me in person, instead of just leaving it at a hotel front desk. I truly, truly appreciate that. All I can say is: If you’re diving in South West Rocks, this dive centre is absolutely the best choice. Highly recommended!
An unforgettable diving experience at South West Rocks! We had an incredible time diving with the team at South West Rocks Diving. A huge shoutout to Dodgy Joe and a special mention to sophie(aka Sarah), who took us on an awesome dive — his energy, knowledge, and sense of humour made the whole experience even better. He and Sophie went above and beyond to make my partner feel completely comfortable and confident in the water, which made all the difference. The dive itself was absolutely stunning — vis was not the best but still an amazing dive, heaps of marine life, an abundance of sharks and a super relaxed, friendly vibe from start to finish. Can’t recommend this place enough — we’ll definitely be back for more dives with Joe and the crew! P. S. Forgot his name but the skipper of the viper was also a great guy and made the whole 2 days.
We absolutely loved diving here. We were lucky enough to be the only ones booked on for our day and had the pleasure of going out with Kev and Matt. Matt is up there with the best guides I’ve dived with. We got to see a nice variety of animals, grey nurse, cowries, Nudibranchs, blue groupers, beautiful fan corals. And the cave is super fun to go through and explore. We waited a day and booked another 2 day trip to return soon.
Amazing team! Glad to have Joe as our dive guide for the two days dives. He was very nice and took good care of us, and having enough time for us to explore the cave instead of rushing though made a huge difference in experience. 👍🏻
