Quoll Headquarters is a 160-hectare nature reserve, nestled between four National Parks, on the top of the Great Dividing Range north of Tenterfield, NSW.
It is a fenced sanctuary amongst granite boulders and old-growth forest, protecting many endangered species and the habitat they live in. It is also the home of Australia's apex mainland marsupial carnivore, the Spotted-tailed Quoll.

Private tours are held year round and they only do one tour per day so you will have the whole sanctuary to yourselves with your own wildlife conservation expert. Tours run for approximately four hours and include a gourmet lunch. The tour will show you a 'behind the scenes' look at exactly how the sanctuary operates and how we manage the ecosystem for our wildlife to flourish within the fenced reserve. They will show the varied landscapes and habitat types that make Quoll Headquarters such a special place and also explore the lifestyle of the quoll. You can also participate in any ecological surveys they are undertaking at the time. Tours consist of buggy tours, short walks and a talk in our interpretation centre as well as lunch. Their tours only require a low level of fitness and full wheelchair access. All animals at Quoll Headquarters are wild and free ranging within the fenced sanctuary. There is no guarantee of seeing any particular animal but every tour will see an abundance of wild animals in their natural habitat. They recommend a start time of 8am but you can choose your own start time from 8am to 12 noon.
Quoll HQ has cute animals, science, special country, great food and above all, an education. It's a wildlife refuge, a tourist destination, a place to slow down and immerse yourself in nature, and a unique demonstration of one couple's commitment to conservation. This is a truly special place, owned and run by special people. It will inspire you and give you hope. The tour inspired us so much we are keen to return as guests or volunteers and watch with interest all the great plans becoming a reality. Thank you Steve and Bianca for your generous hospitality and an outstanding day at your property.
Generous hosts sharing their knowledge, experience and vision for the future of endangered wildlife- in fact all wildlife on this special property. Loved feeding the wallaby babies which were rescues. Bird life in abundance and touring the property on a Polaris off road vehicle was fantastic as you see all the work completed and how the fencing works to keep predators out, boulders and dams everything is so well set out for the preservation of our endangered wildlife. Steve and Bianca were excellent hosts and so glad we visited. A very special place and well worth a visit - we stayed 2 nights in Tenterfield giving us plenty of time to rest from the drive and explore the town and Quoll Headquarters before setting off again.
A very special couple with a very special vision and amazing Landcare skills. We learnt to much and saw so much that I have only ever seen in text books. Every moment was different and awesome. The cheeky wild birds was a highlight. The highlight of our northern NSW holiday.
A day spent at Quoll Headquarters is a balm for the soul. This incredible marsupial sanctuary, nestled in stunning granitic boulder country less than half an hour from Tenterfield, is the brainchild and passion project of co-founders Steve and Bianca. My husband and I were so privileged to spend the entire day with this dynamic duo, learning and experiencing first hand their vision to protect endangered marsupials including quolls, potoroo, rare wallabies and possums, and eventually, koalas and Tassie Devils too. This 400 acre sanctuary is fully fenced with a special predator-proof fence which keeps out invaders including feral cats and pigs. The fences are checked multiple times daily to ensure that the animals within are safe and can live and breed free from predation. As part of our private tour we were so lucky to be able to join Steve and Bianca in feeding the orphaned joeys, checking fences and possums nesting boxes, hiking up on the Granite rocks to check the infrared cameras for footage of the elusive nocturnal quolls, and walking through the experimental eucalypt plantation which will become the koala sanctuary. Steve and Bianca and their committed band of volunteers are so passionate about their mission to preserve iconic Australian species for the future. Bianca is a licensed wildlife carer, and hand-rears joeys whose mothers have been killed by cars or external predators outside the sanctuary. The entire QHQ sanctuary spans stunning and diverse habitats, from stark and beautiful granitic outcrops to wet marshlands; all valuable for protecting diverse bird and animal species. Habitat loss, climate change and feral predators represent real threats to the future of iconic Australian species like koalas, wallaroos and other small marsupials. Quoll Headquarters is doing something practical, valuable and inspirational to conserve these precious natural resources for future generations, and to educate us all about why and how we can all contribute. It was an honour and a fascinating privilege to be able to learn and share in their mission. And Bianca's spectacular home-made chicken and leek pie for lunch was pretty incredible too!
Quoll Headquarters is a must visit for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing day surrounded by an incredible variety of Australian wildlife. It's clear that Steve and Bianca have poured their hearts into this special place, and their passion shines through in every part of the tour. I came away with a better understanding of the region, the challenges the property faces and the what the future conservation for some of our most vulnerable native species will look like. Loved the morning feeding with all the parrots and wallabies. Little bit disappointed the new quoll was playing hard to find but there is always next time.
