Walangari Karntawarra (B.A., B.Ed.) and Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo are a Sydney-based, Aboriginal-owned and operated business sharing Aboriginal culture through performance, music, dance, storytelling and education.
Led by Aboriginal Elder, artist, educator and performer Walangari Karntawarra, the group delivers dynamic, interactive cultural experiences for local, national and international audiences.
Walangari and Diramu have worked with government departments, community organisations and major corporations, including Google and Coca-Cola. They regularly perform at significant events and venues, including NSW Parliament, and have opened the Royal Sydney Easter Show each year since 2018. Members also won the national DanceRites competition in 2023 while performing with their community.
Performances can be adapted for different audiences, venues and events, combining traditional and contemporary expressions of Aboriginal culture through dance, didgeridoo, song, storytelling and audience participation.
Their performances and workshops are people-led experiences requiring minimal physical resources. Instruments, equipment and cultural materials are retained and reused wherever appropriate, helping minimise single-use materials and waste.
At the heart of each experience is the sharing of Aboriginal cultural knowledge and connection to Country. By booking Walangari and Diramu, audiences directly support an Aboriginal-owned and operated business and the continued sharing of culture through Aboriginal voices.
