I recently completed the Adventure Gene Paint and Hike four-day tour, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Our guides, Maddie and Ineka, were amazing, generous with their time, incredibly encouraging, and exceptionally well organised. They created such a supportive and positive environment for everyone. Adventure Gene really takes the worry out of preparation. The comprehensive packing list was so helpful, and the option to use their ultra-light hiking gear made the whole experience even more accessible and enjoyable. I loved the paint-and-hike concept, the perfect balance of hiking through the spectacular scenery of Kosciuszko National Park and slowing down to paint and soak it all in. No matter your ability, whether in hiking or painting, everything felt achievable and inclusive. Four wonderful days, breathtaking landscapes, and great moments shared with like-minded people. I would highly recommend. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
I recently completed the 2-day Highest Peaks in Australia hike with The Adventure Gene, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Our guides, Tom and Gus, know the landscape and environment intimately and were generous in sharing their knowledge. They were highly capable, patient, calm, fun and the trip was run with a level of organisation that made everything feel seamless. A pre-hike WhatsApp group meant questions were answered early, and preparation felt straightforward and well supported. We were encouraged to take our time, really soak in the environment, and experience the landscape rather than rush through it. The pace allowed space to walk and talk with others or move quietly on your own, and everyone was treated as an individual, not herded along. I met some great people and it felt like the start of friendships that will last well beyond the hike. I learned a huge amount in just two days, from gear choices, new tech, blister prevention, packing systems, clothing choice and practical hiking habits and hacks. The supplied gear was ultralight and thoughtfully chosen, and unlike other guided hikes I’ve done, packs weren’t overloaded. Their packing list will now be my gold standard. It’s clear the guides are genuinely passionate (quietly obsessed in the best possible way) about hiking, camping, gear, and the environment, and the amount of knowledge you gain is significant. Whether you’re new to overnight or multi-day hiking, or an experienced hiker looking for your next adventure, I can’t recommend The Adventure Gene highly enough.
Exciting, restorative and transformative are some words that jump to mind when I reflect on the Paint and Hike trip I did with The Adventure Gene this week. Despite not having hiked or camped for over a decade, Maddie made us feel empowered and confident as we navigated a full nature immersion experience. With delicious meals, clear communication and impeccable organisation, our time together was calm and enjoyable. Artist Ineka fostered a group environment that not only led to inspired art-making, but also deep reflection and connection. The strangers I met on day one became wonderful friends over the course of the trip. There is something special about getting out of your comfort zone and doing something hard together, and in my opinion, achieving those things was wonderfully worthwhile. I went on this hike to discover the great outdoors, but along the way I discovered more of myself.
I joined the 4 day Kosci walk in Dec 2025 - it was my first time hiking on the main range and using proper ultralight gear. I learnt so much and it’s given me the confidence to do more by myself. The trip was incredibly well organised including a last minute route change due to potential bad weather (which ended up missing us as result!). The food was high quality and delicious with everyone’s dietaries well catered for. The hike was challenging but I never felt like I was holding the group up - even though we had some very experienced and fast walkers. The guides were exceptional and their knowledge of the area second to none. I’d highly recommend the Adventure Gene to anyone looking to start their hiking journey or to any experienced hikers looking to upgrade their ultralight knowledge.
I recently went on the 4 day Main range traverse with Tom and Tearloch. It was a fantastic experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to go on another trip with them in the future. The gear we were supplied with was very high quality and ultralight, and the pre-hike briefing the day prior was extremely comprehensive. The meals were delicious and plentiful, and they were able to cater for lots of different dietary requirements. I especially appreciated the time they spent giving advice on hiking gear to me. As someone who wants to do more multi-day hiking in the future it was a great opportunity to learn from two experts who gladly gave their time to teach me. I can tell they are both passionate about their work!
