The museum serves as a mirror to the Infantry Corps. It is a place where young soldiers can learn about the history behind the names they are familiar with from high school or perhaps about the military service of a family member. Gallipoli, Passchendaele, Kokoda and Long Tan are all bought to life along with less familiar campaigns like the NSW Marine Light Infantry deployment to Peking in 1900.
The display space is divided into two main areas. The lower floor features exhibitions on the history of operations, from the Sudan in 1885 through to our current deployment in Afghanistan today and the mezzanine level features the 'tools of the trade', that is, the small arms and their associated training aids, how they have changed and developed and how these changes have influenced the tactics, techniques and procedures of the Regiments of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps.
Brilliant, expansive museum covering the history of the Royal Australian Infantry Corps from its foundations to contemporary operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Wide array of small arms, vehicles and historical artefacts telling the story of the corps. Cafe co-located within the museum. Ample parking. Recommended!
Only 30 minutes from the vineyards in Pokoblin. Well laid out museum with a variety of uniforms, vehicles and weapons with commentary on all the major wars Australia has been involved in. Free entry. Cafe and gift shop reasonably priced.
If you are into military history , the Australian Army Infantry Museum at Singleton, currently has the biggest Victoria Cross display outside of Canberra. This is the highest award for valour given to incredible people who have put others ahead of their own safety during combat. Their heroic actions have saved many lives, sometimes at the cost of their own. The museum also has an outstanding permanent display, a gift shop, as well as a cafe with nice light meals, great coffee and delicious cookies. The staff are fantastic, cheerful, making everyone very welcome.
Without a doubt the best organisation of displays I have ever seen. An amazing journey through Australian wartime history, not one item displayed is a replica piece. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to WO2 Steven Black for the wealth of knowledge he shared with us on our self guided tour, also to our service men and women past and present. You can tell this museum is staffed with the most dedicated people, including the team in the caffee/restaurant.
Well presented small museum, worth a visit if passing by. The adjecent gift shop and cafe has a good variety.
