    Dangars Gorge closed for precinct upgrade

    The Dangars Gorge precinct in Oxley Wild Rivers NP is strictly closed while visitor facilities are being upgraded. The areas that will be closed include:

    • Dangars Gorge Campground
    • Dangars Falls Picnic Area
    • Dangars Falls lookouts
    • McDirtys walking track
    • Sailsbury Waters walking track

    Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local Armidale NPWS office (02 6738 9100).

    NPWS will be making improvements to the campground, walking tracks and signage upgrades as well as installing a new pedestrian bridge.

    During this time, visitors to Oxley Wild Rivers NP can still access other visitor precincts, such as Long Point, Gara Gorge, Wollomombi Falls, and for the more adventurous, Riverside or Halls Peak. Please note that access to Riverside and Halls Peak requires an access permit and a low-range 4WD vehicle. More information can be found on the NPWS website https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/

About

If you really love getting as far away as possible from civilisation, then Halls Peak campground and picnic area is about as rugged and remote as you can get. Accessed on a dirt track that will test your driving skills, you'll arrive deep in the heart of the wild gorge country of New England.

If you're lucky you might have the place to yourself, with your only neighbours the wallabies and bandicoots. Cook your catch over a woodfire barbecue and then settle in for an evening round the campfire.

When you're not relaxing, there's plenty to keep you active; swimming, fishing and canoeing will get you into the wilderness frame of mind, and you'll soon forget what stress feels like.

You'll need a vehicle permit for day use. If camping, permit fees are included in the campground fee. Day use vehicle permits can only be bought online or by calling the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757.
