Flat Rock Picnic Area is a beloved spot for swimming, fishing, camping, and picnics. Set along the scenic Fish River and 26km drive from Bathurst's city center, it's the perfect place to enjoy a day out or camp overnight.
Only 25 minutes from Bathurst, this picturesque location is easily accessible by a sealed road, making it suitable for two-wheel-drive vehicles.
The site has drop toilets, a free barbeque (bring own wood) and is a pet-friendly - on leash. Potable water is not available. Bring own drinking water with you when planning a trip.
The ground is fairly flat and suitable for caravans and tents alike; however, at this free camping site there are no powered sites.

Nice free camping spot. Can get a bit busy but everyone there seemed nice and respectful. Dog friendly is a bonus. Cows in the immediate area with minimal fencing to keep dogs separate. Keep an eye on your furry friends!

This was a perfect discovery for me as I didn’t want to stay in Bathurst or a city environment but only 15 km away. You’ve got this perfect little secret space with a stream and surrounding mountains it’s gorgeous. I highly recommend it.

One of my all time favourite camping spots. Fresh clean mountain water to swim in, or fossick. Natural sunbeds upon the rocks. There is plenty of room to stop with your caravan or tent. BBQ covered area with free bbqs. I love camping here exploring the area.

This is one of those places that is known to many as a great overnight camping space. The council maintain the area with a single drop toilet. Located on the Fish River is is quiet and beautiful in its natural setting. The shallow crossing is safe area when the water flow is low, not to be attempted in fast flooding conditions. Platypus have been seen in the pools between the rocks and fishing could be good here. Gold fossicking or panning is also a consideration in this area. Well worth the few kilometres drive off the main road for the experience. Take your rubbish with you and not dumping it into the toilet so everyone can enjoy the stay.
