Grand Canyon

About
Grand Canyon is a 400m canyon in Blue Mountains National Park. It features an unavoidable 30m swim and requires a total walk of 5km to get in and out. To complete it you need to be physically fit, experienced, and accomplished using ropes and other canyoning equipment. Expect to encounter commercial tour groups.
Located near Blackheath, Grand Canyon is cool and shaded. Since you can't complete the canyon without going for a swim, the best time to go is in warm summer months to reduce the risk of getting chilled when wet.
To reach Grand Canyon, start at Neates Glen parking area off Evans Lookout Road. From here, follow Grand Canyon track for about 2km downhill, passing through a rock tunnel. You'll find the start of the canyon to the left of the track, marked by a set of abseil bolts and chains. Be careful, there's a big drop beneath them.
Once you've made it through Grand Canyon, you'll find a sign with directions to Evans lookout and Neates Glen. Follow this track to find your way back to Neates Glen carpark.

Absolutely breathtaking trail! The Grand Canyon Track in Blackheath is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained walks in the Blue Mountains. The moment you step onto the track, you’re surrounded by lush ferns, sandstone walls, small waterfalls and cool, refreshing air. The trail is moderately challenging with stairs and uneven sections, but nothing too difficult if you take your time. The views along the canyon are unreal — it feels like walking through a natural cathedral. The path is clearly marked, safe, and gives you a mix of open lookouts and shaded rainforest sections. Highly recommend going early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the peace. A must-do for anyone visiting the Blue Mountains! 🌿🏞️

Absolutely stunning walk! The Grand Canyon Track in Blackheath is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Blue Mountains. The trail takes you through lush rainforest, mossy cliffs, and little waterfalls — it honestly feels like stepping into another world. The path is well maintained, but expect lots of stairs and some slippery sections after rain. Took me around 3 hours at a relaxed pace. Highly recommend starting early to enjoy the peace and magic. Don’t miss the views from Evans Lookout. A perfect amazing walk! 🌿🥾

A very busy track, be careful after rain, it can experience flash flooding and there will be large puddles on the track. If it hasn't rained in a while the waterfalls will be limited. Family with 4 kids from 14 to 8 took around 2 and a half hours but signs suggest a little more. There is a lot of parking areas but can be hard to get during peak times. There are stairs, not the worst I have ever done but if your fitness isn't great you will need to take it slowly, I assume this is why the recommended time is closer to 4 hours.

Really incredible, nothing like anything like this on all of blue mountains walking tracks. Must visit. Side note: start at Neates Glen parking lot (it’ll be the first parking space u come to when driving the destination) it’s better rhis way bc as soon as you walking down (it’s v steep) you’ll encounter beautiful forest canopy. If you started the other way it’s a lot harder bc then at the end of ur walk you’d have to walk up a very steep mountain. The downside is when your finished witg the walk you have to walk back to neapes gate. To get to ur car. But i loved it.

I did the Grand Canyon Walk in the Blue Mountains with a couple of friends and it was our third time doing it. We parked at Evan’s Point Lookout and started from there which makes for a really nice beginning to the track. The initial downhill walk is amazing because you are surrounded by incredible views and slowly make your way into the canyon. Once you are down in the rainforest it feels like a completely different world. The air is cool and fresh, the sound of the water running through the creeks is calming, and walking under the tall trees is simply blissful. It is one of those parts of the Blue Mountains that makes you appreciate just how special this area is. You can take your time to enjoy the scenery. There are plenty of beautiful spots to pause, look around, and take photos. The rainforest section is my favourite part because you get to experience a mix of shade, greenery, and natural rock formations that feel untouched. However, the last 40 minutes of the track are quite tough as it is mostly uphill and can really test your fitness. It is important to be prepared for that section because it feels quite different from the rest of the walk. If you are planning to do this for the first time, I would recommend carrying enough water and a few snacks to keep your energy up. Choose a sunny day if you can because the light makes the rainforest even more beautiful and it is nice to have clear conditions when you are walking. Take your time, enjoy the views, and do not hesitate to stop for breaks along the way.
