Wildlife Retreat at Taronga

We had a wonderful stay. The hotel room was very beautiful, extremely clean, and everything was modern and well designed. From our room, we were even able to see kangaroos. We also received two complimentary tours – the sanctuary tour and a second tour through the zoo outside of opening hours. Both tours were very informative and truly special experiences. Highly recommended! We would love to come back. It’s something really special.

We really enjoyed our staycation at Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. The staff are all excellent and very friendly. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We ordered drinks and snacks at the N’Gurra Lounge. Amazing views of Sydney harbour. We also enjoyed the Sanctuary walk which introduced us to some of our friendly neighbours (koalas and kangaroos!) We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast at Me-Gal Restaurant plus a sunset and sunrise guided walk around the zoo. A hidden gem of a place to stay if you are in Sydney. Highly recommended!

This is by a long way one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The location simply iconic and if you get the right room you can even be lucky enough to have a koala outside your window! Mine was pretty cool, I had red kangaroos outside mine and in the morning I saw echidnas wandering round after breakfast. The location is what makes this a next level hotel but also the rooms (even the most basic) are simply luxurious. The bed was out of this world and I just loved every second of being here. Even breakfast feels super high class. Be aware though that if you like drinking, their bar shuts very early.

A true 5-star experience. The animal view room was very comfortable and lived up to its name; there were 2 koalas outside our room the entire two days. The double sliding door opened wide, with great views of the Sydney skyline and bridge. There are lots of little details about the room that you don't get in most hotel rooms at a similar price point. Service was immaculate. I planned my engagement for check-in day, and the staff accommodated my request to put a bottle of champagne from my bag on ice. There was a laptop, another ring, and other valuables in the bag which remained clearly untouched, but the champagne was on ice with glasses when we finally arrived to the room. The staff seemed genuinely happy for us and were anticipating our arrival when when we returned from the day at the zoo. They were flexible with tour bookings (pending availability) and never showed a hint of judgement for missed bookings. The same was true for other guests based on conversations I overheard in the lounge area. We got to do three free tours in the end, all worth the time they took. Emily was the guide for all three and she was cool and down to earth. Along with this, they were happy to change our dinner booking at Me-Gal (I'll be leaving a separate review there) when we needed to move our tours around. All in all a fantastic experience and I really hope to go back and do it again in a few years. The only thing I would change is having a day or two more to really enjoy the setting instead of cramming everything into 24ish hours.
