Stopped by the restaurant last week to celebrate my granddaughter’s 7th birthday and were greeted by the lovely, mullet-rocking gentleman, Connor. He offered recommendations based on what he and his girlfriend usually enjoy for lunch, and his service was professional, friendly, and attentive throughout.
I ordered the Butter Senior’s Chicken, while my wife had the Port Steak—both excellent recommendations. The food wasn’t particularly fancy or complex, but it was comforting and homely. It was also well priced, with generous portion sizes.
Connor managed to convince nearly everyone in our group to sign up for a member card—he’s a natural salesman. I will most definitely be returning if the service continues at that standard, where staff go above and beyond for the business rather than just themselves.
The lady behind the bar appeared a little overworked as she darted around, but we’ve all been there when we were young! 😂
That said, the table next to us was quite loud and positioned a bit too close for comfort. The décor also feels quite outdated, and there’s a noticeable mustiness to the carpet. As a former restaurant owner, I believe The Dorset Gardens Hotel is a staple of the Yarra Ranges and deserves a return to its former glory. A renovation and a more streamlined menu would go a long way.
Thank you to Connor, Jessica, and all the Dorset staff for a lovely and memorable evening.

I had my birthday party with 80 guests in the hotel's Samara Room. The night was a roaring success thanks to the event manager Bell and her team who did an impeccable job. The room was beautifully set up, the food was delicious and abundant, the bar service quick and efficient. Prior to the event we were given ample opportunity to come in and discuss all the details to ensure that everything would suit our preferences. And on the night no detail was missed. The end result far exceeded our expectations. Thanks, Bell and the Dorset Gardens Events Team, your professionalism gave me a perfect birthday party!

Had a really nice birthday dinner here. Special thanks to our waitress Brooke who solved an issue we had with one of our meals being wrong from the kitchen. She fixed it straight away and even offered a drink to make up for the wait although it wasn't a big deal. As a previous business owner this is good to see as a lot of hospitality workers don't seem to care these days!
Will definitely return in the future.

Very disappointing today. We always look forward to the roast of the day and have enjoyed both the beef and the pork many times.
Today’s beef was very tough and chewy with lots of gristle. The vegetables are usually amazing but today they were just roast potatoes, boiled carrots, broccoli and zucchini. Not the usual delicious roast pumpkin, onion, zucchini, potatoes etc.
Such a shame because the DG is know for the fabulous roasts, hopefully this was a one-off. We will give it one more try so hopefully it will be back to the usual top standard.
Staff were excellent as usual 👏👏

Waited 20 minutes just for someone to take my order, then got the bruschetta without feta and bread very soggy… half an olive… quite amusing actually! Waited another 20 for mains to be served🙄 waitress was lovely though. The one that served my meal literally plonked it on the table without a word. It never used to be like this, I only came 2 months ago and it was wonderful . It’s gone downhill a lot!
