Scenic Jamieson's fascinating history has been captured in this self-guided walk.
Take in the landscape, gardens, wildlife and the overall beauty. Walk past quaint cottages, heritage buildings, picturesque river settings and beautiful deciduous trees both of botanical significance and colourful spectacle. Bright green in spring and summer, and all shades of yellow, red and golden when their leaves turn in autumn.
Other highlights include St Peter's Anglican Church surrounded by 100 year old oaks, and don't miss Juddy's Hut, an example of an early miner's cottage. Visit The Island where the Jamieson and Goulburn Rivers meet. Keep your eyes open for beautiful native birds and if you're lucky you may even spot a platypus whilst riverside.
The route is displayed on interpretive signs in 25 sites around the township, download online or pick up a map from the Mansfield Visitor Information Centre.
Had a great time visiting the Jamieson & District Historical Society! The exhibits and displays are fascinating—so much history packed into one place. The detailed old maps were particularly cool to see. I should’ve taken more photos, but it’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!
The entire place looks beautiful, i didn't get to explore, but the surroundings of this area was beautiful, with the trees in this little town. Pu li e toilets was an easy access.
Staff are quite friendly and welcoming. Offers a wide range of ales and has a nice big backyard space! Food looked amazing but we were too full to eat anything!
It's funny how we connect with certain places like Jamieson.. we will go there as kids out to wrens flat and ride the Silver spur track or Mt Sunday. Were was a hut at wrens for years, gone now so has the mad River crossing that was once there also, one of he best swimming holes is just up the my Sunday track, maybe 500 m then off to your right side, a little track takes U down to a wonderful swimming..watch for snakes of course.. Ilved in Jamieson in the early 2000,s once you talk to the locals and get a little knowledge of the place the so much more to see of course.. the Chinese diggings on the woods point road 1 km out of town is a interesting place to visit..but U have to know were it is..I look forward to returning soon. Cheers ..
Just a great little town
