The Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club operates a vintage engine museum set in six hectares of parkland in the south eastern suburb of Scoresby. In all, there are several hundred engines and related exhibits housed in a number of exhibition sheds around the grounds.
Steam exhibits include traction engines, among them a pair of massive Fowler Z7 steam ploughing engines, steam rollers, portable engines and a large and varied collection of industrial and marine stationary steam engines and pumps.
There is a period workshop and a diesel engine section. You are unlikely to see a comparable display of large diesel generators elsewhere. There are displays of tractors, agricultural equipment and early road working and earth moving machinery and a working Blacksmith shed.
An added attraction for the kids is the miniature railway which operates every Sunday. The one kilometre miniature railway track circuits the grounds.
The museum is open for static display each weekend but most of the engines are in running order and on the last Sunday of the month a selection can be seen in operation on our Run Day. The grounds are attractively laid out with a lake, barbecues and a shady picnic areas.

Came for steam fest and loved it! So cool to be able to see old engines and machinery brought back to life. Kids will love the little steam engine train ride and the models. Highly recommend.

My little one loves here. It’s so interesting to see so many old engines running(they only run on the last Sunday each month). Sitting on the mini steam train is another highlight. The people working here are enthusiastic about their work and keen to pass the knowledge to others.

We had a great day here and our 2yo really enjoyed the train ride, plus all the engines/trucks! We’ve lost a hat, but the staffs are super helpful and managed to find it back. Thanks a lot Chris!

Nice little enthusiast’s museum full of working and non working stuff, plus things which look like they’ve been in people’s sheds for years! The train ride was good for the children. We went on the day things were running which I think helped the place be more interesting.
One minus point is that there should have been food available as we went on one of the end of month demonstration days but this wasn’t the case for some reason.

Been driving past this place for years, it’s not every day you notice a tram out this far. Finally went this year for steam fest.
If engineering is your thing this is definitely your place to be, my old man loved it! Also $4 for a miniature train ride.
Volunteers were lovely and very informative and up for a yarn.
