We joined Oceania for two small-group day tours last week: one to the Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles, and another to Phillip Island for the Penguin Parade. Both are must-do excursions when visiting Melbourne. Compared with options offered elsewhere (such as Klook, GetYourGuide, or other local tour operators), Oceania provides a much more seamless and personal experience. Along the way, we noticed many large tour buses carrying 30–50 people each, while our groups had just 6 and 7 people respectively. The small group size made the experience much more relaxed and comfortable. For the Great Ocean Road tour, our guide was Herb. He was full of energy and shared lots of stories and insights about Melbourne and the surrounding areas. We were also blessed with the weather. The day started a bit gloomy, but by the time we reached the Twelve Apostles, the sun came out and the sky turned beautifully blue. For the Penguin Parade, our guide Gary took good care of us. We were the only ones given special cushions, which made the penguin viewing much more cozy. Apparently there are several viewing options (some with a ranger guide, others with premium viewing spots), and everything was coordinated very smoothly. Gary also had incredibly sharp eyesight and spotted wildlife along the way, including an echidna and several wallabies. I enjoyed this immensely.
