Areas closed for ground shooting for feral animal control

Areas of Budderoo National Park are closed between 6:00pm Monday 12th October 2026 and 09:00am Friday 17th December 2026 for a pest animal ground shooting operation. The closed areas are:

    • Douglas Creek Trail
    • Powerlines trail east of Carrington Falls
    • Knights Hill precinct

This program will target deer. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species.

Other pest animals, including pigs, goats, foxes and feral cats will be targeted if observed during the operation.

This operation will involve night time ground shooting only. The park closure is between 6pm - 9am Monday to Thursday during this time.

Ground Shooting will not take place during school holidays or on weekends or public holidays.

Park closure warning signs will be placed at entrances to the shooting area. Do not enter the closed area during shooting periods.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information contact the Illawarra-Highlands area office on (02) 4887 8244.

About

If you love a breath of fresh air with a spectacular view then the easy walk to Izzards lookout is a must see. Stroll along the escarpment, soaking in the sights and sounds of the waterfall, particularly impressive after heavy rain. From the lookout, feast your eyes on the lush forests of Kangaroo Valley.

It's a perfect spot for birdwatchers, so be sure to look for the green catbird and fan-tailed cuckoo. If you hear something like a chainsaw ringing through the rainforest it’s more likely to be the superb lyrebird.

If you're still hungry for views, check out nearby Nellies Glen picnic area where you can choose from Missingham lookout track or Warris Chair lookout track or if you’re just plain hungry, make tracks for Lyrebird Café.
