Notice of 1080 ground baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Tuesday 21 July 2026 to Monday 21 December 2026. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will take place in:

    - Comerong Island Nature Reserve

    - Conjola National Park

    - Meroo National Park

    - Murramarang National Park

    - Narrawallee Creek Nature Reserve

    - Seven Mile Beach National Park.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially nesting threatened shorebird species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For further information call the NPWS Nowra area office on 02 4428 6300.

About

The forest meets the ocean at Oaky Beach campground. This isolated campground is set among tall spotted gum forest and burrawangs. You'll really feel like you're in the bush but it's just a short stroll to Oaky Beach.

The road into Oaky Beach is a little more adventurous than Depot or Pretty Beach but you get a far more isolated feel once there. Pitch your tent, explore the surrounding rainforest and settle in by the campfire. As night falls, gaze at the stars from the open grassy area behind the beach.

March to November is great for adventurous walkers and whale spotting. It's a few hours' walk to Yellow Rock with vantage points and secluded beaches along the way. Possums and various gliders are common sights in the evenings and if you're lucky you might spot a swamp wallaby or a threatened pied oystercatcher on the beach.

In summer spend your days swimming and snorkelling at the beaches at Oaky, Yellow Rock and North Head.
