The Light and Sound Show at Mandu is a must-watch evening event held every day at the Hindola Mahal, inside the Jahaz Mahal campus. About the 30 minute show uses lights, sound, and storytelling to show the rich history of Mandu. The main story is about the deep love between King Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati, their music, and their sad ending. The voice of famous actor Ashutosh Rana makes the story even more powerful and emotional. The show also talks a little about the Mughal rule that came after Baz Bahadur’s defeat. The lights and background sound make it feel real and touching. Photography is not allowed during the show, even without flash, which some people find unnecessary, but it helps everyone enjoy the show better. Overall, the show is very well made—interesting, enjoyable, and full of history. The Hindi show is from 7:00 to 7:35 PM, and the English show is from 7:50 to 8:25 PM. It runs daily, and watching it under the open sky of Mandu.
One must attend this show to understand the history of Mandu before visiting the monuments and the locations of Mandu. 7:30 is timings but one should check with hotel or location based on the month you are visiting. One thing which I noticed was the VIP culture, a VIP with his large family and children were allotted a special side way sitting arrangement and their chairs were arranged on the Walk way as a special treatment. Don't know when will we Indians will able to get rid of this.
Light & Sound Show - Hindola Mahal. 27 December 2021. Archaeological Survey of India has been doing wonderful job in restoring ancient monuments, not only all over India but all over the world. For the last few years, Tourism departments in many states have also pitched in, in improving the infrastructure as well as better maintenance of historical monuments in their respective states. Alog with planting well planned and landscaped gardens, lawns, and decorative shrubs and plants another major technological innovation and improvement introduced in many places having historical monuments is “Light and Sound Show” conducted at one of the selected monuments. Mandu with such a rich history and hundreds of wonderful monuments was ideal for introduction of such a light and sound show. In Mandu the light and sound shows are conducted at Hindola Mahal. There are two shows one at 7:00 PM in Hindi and another in English at 8:00 PM. Due to onset of winters temperatures were quite low after sun set, therefore, we decided to see the Hindi show at 7:00 PM. Ticket sale starts at 6:30 PM next to entry gate which is opened only after the ticket sale has started. VIP culture which plagues our society was very much in evidence at Light and Sound show as well. We were the first in line and first to reach venue of the show. We were not allowed to occupy the front row, which we were told was reserved for VIPs. Show did not start at 7 PM. VIPS did not turn up at appointed time. Those six chairs were removed and show started around 7 :10 PM, as any further delay would have a snowballing effect as the next show had to start at 8:00 PM There was a bit of commotion at 7:15 PM. The VIPS had arrived. Chairs were put back and show was stopped and RESTARTED after the VIPS had settled. If we cannot get rid of VIP culture, I request God to give some sense to most of our VIPS so that they at least understand the importance of time and become punctual. The frontage of Hindola Mahal shown in the photo was used to project the images. Projection and sound system was excellent. Images and animations were done extremely well and in vivid and vibrant colours. Accompanying commentary was also matching in quality and was good. I have no idea who was the narrator but he had a arresting way of speech and a good raconteur. Photography during the show was prohibited. I can understand that flash photography would have been very distractive but I see no logical reason to bar photography without the use of flash. By nature, if I am not convinced by the logic of any restrictions, I tend to rebel. So, I took out my mobile and took one photo. Ajeet sitting next to me gave me dirty looks. He could not believe I would break the rules. Anyway, to please him I stopped after one and only photo at Light and sound show. Over all It was a good and well-made show. Entertaining, interesting and educative.
Very distorted information presented through video medium. ASI needs to re-work on it. Video shows that Mughals were the only one who knew about music, art, gardens and as if in pre-mughal era Bharat didn't had any of these. Information is quite distorted.
Real Value for Money: There is both Hindi and English version of the show. Hindi version is around 7pm and English version at 7.50pm. On normal days mot much of rush because many tourists undertake day visits. I was really impressed with the quality of the show especially the lighting part. The show uses Hindola Mahal as the background. The show captures the essence of Malwa history. Really absorbing and value for money event.
