Miss Porter's House Museum

What a well preserved piece of history. The opening hours of this museum fit well with a morning rail departure from Sydney and a gentle walk from the Newcastle Interchange. A well versed set of volunteers who each added to the story of bringing to life the Porter home. The QR code presented audio is well done.

Always an amazing place to visit. Visited with Newcastle Ghost Tours. A wonderful mix of spooky and history.

It is rare to see the lives of ordinary people so well preserved as they are in this house. We came across the house by (happy) accident while passing through Newcastle en route to Melbourne.. So glad we did. It’s a beautiful cottage from an aesthetic point of view (with lots of impressive details such as stencilling on the wooden ceilings), but is also full of fascinating daily objects used by the Porter family. The volunteers were enthusiastic and informed. So well worth a visit.

What a fabulous experience this was visiting Miss Porter's House. Hidden in King Street, this little gem is a true time capsule, offering up the most interesting and delightful insights into the life of a family in Newcastle spanning over a century. My mother and aunt, both elderly, were transported back to a very familiar time, and spent informative time with the volunteers here whom I can't praise highly enough. They were full of knowledge and their fondness for the house and its fascinating contents was obvious. Thank you to everyone at Miss Porter's House who made our visit possible for us....we loved it and can thoroughly recommend it as a great educational experience and a glimpse into our local history.
