Temporary closures at Mimosa Rocks National Park

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is delivering a range of improvements at the popular Mimosa Rocks National Park on NSW’s South Coast. The upgrades will improve flood resilience, sustainability and visitor safety across three key precincts in the park including Aragunnu Beach, Gillards Beach and Middle Beach campgrounds and day use areas.

Work will be completed in stages, and has been scheduled outside of peak holiday times, where possible.

Visitors can expect the following temporary closures:

    • From August 2026 to late-2026 Middle Beach campground and day use area will be closed to all public access for upgrades.
    • From February 2027 to Mid-2027 Aragunnu campground and day use area is expected to be closed to all access, subject to planning approvals and weather.
    • From 14 October 2026 – Mid-2027 Gillards campground and day use area is expected to be closed pending planning approvals and subject to weather.

Alternative camping options include Picnic Point Campground in Mimosa Rocks National Park. Take the opportunity to explore some of the other great parks in the region.

Temporary closures may also occur outside these dates to allow for the works. Plan your trip and check for closure alerts before your visit at nswparks.info.
Visitors are reminded that the area is currently a construction site and is closed to public access. Signs, barriers and fencing are in place for safety. Unauthorised entry to construction sites is prohibited in NSW. Do not enter the site or bypass closure signs, barriers or fencing.

All other areas in Mimosa Rocks National Park will remain open to visitors during these times. Check for park closure alerts before you travel.

About

Mimosa Rocks National Park offers up show-stopping headland views, beaches and pure lagoons. You'll be spoilt for choice with lookouts, rainforest pockets and historic sites to explore.

The park takes its name from the Paddle Steamer Mimosa that wrecked in 1863 after running onto rocks at the northern end of the park. The rocks of Mimosa have distinctive castle-like features that are the result of intricate folds, faults and intrusions occurring in the rock. For a view you'll never forget, head to Bunga Head for sunrise, the rocks look magnificent backed by the pinks of the early morning sky.

You'll also find plenty of opportunities for fishing, surfing, snorkelling and birdwatching throughout the park and there are great picnic areas to stop for a break. The park's headlands are great vantage points for whale watching in winter.

It's a great place to escape to for the day, and if you'd like to stay for longer, there are a range of campgrounds to choose from, including sites with motorhome and camper trailer access.
