Martin Bridge at Taree spans the broad Manning River, the mightiest of all the beautiful rivers born in the hinterland of the Barrington Coast.
The bridge is a steel truss bridge of eleven spans on concrete supports, 463 metres long. Opened in May 1940, it originally had a central lifting span with two concrete counterbalances to allow for shipping traffic on the busy Manning River.
The Manning River is now renowned for its calm scenic beauty that's perfect for boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, swimming and scenic cruises. On the Taree side of Martin Bridge is a pretty riverside walk with plenty of space for a picnic on the grass overlooking the flowing waters of the Manning River.
Bridge crossing the Manning river into Taree. It's a lovely old steel truss bridge dating from 1940 (replacing a ferry service). Currently undergoing a clean and paint job (2020).

Great bridge to get you across the Manning River or in and out of Taree, but needs maintenance again and I think it would look more amazing with a paint job.

Little goat island is no more. May 2025 floods wiped it off the map.

Nice old bridge that luckily now has been restored but council will let it slip into disrepair again so enjoy it folks whilst it's here.
See if you can guess where it used to open for the trade boats.
