About

Unlike smaller coral cays or sandy islands on the Great Barrier Reef, Fitzroy was once part of mainland Australia. The island is largely untouched and protected as Fitzroy Island National Park, with walking tracks through the rainforest, heathland and open forest to Nudey Beach and the Summit.

Full and half day tours available with optional glass bottom boat tours and snorkelling.

Fitzroy Island Full Day Transfers

Fitzroy Island is one of 600 'Continental' or 'High' islands on the Great Barrier Reef which means it used to be part of the mainland before rising waters separated this tranquil paradise. Over time a fringing coral reef surrounded the island, providing a sheltered home for a variety of fish and coral species. The Ferry cruise to Fitzroy Island by fast catamaran takes only 45 minutes, keeping to the calm waters of the coastline and passing spectacular scenery. Things To Do On Fitzroy Island include snorkelling directly from the beach, glass bottom boat tours, Nudey Beach, bushwalking on National Park walking tracks. What to bring: swimming costume, camera, sunscreen, hat, towel, money for lunch and Levy, ticket. Check in from 8am

Booked with Fitzroy Island Adventures for a day trip to Fitzroy Island. The journey across and the boat itself (Reef unlimited) was very clean and comfy. However, a few suggestions for improvement and to be aware of if you book with them. 1. They used a different boat so when you go to the port and think you're going to get the boat from A6 where the sign states Fitzroy Island Adventures you might have to walk further to get a different boat which is fine but was not communicated prior 2. The tickets have no boarding times just the time you set off, in our case 8.30 3. Most of the information is sent in an email there is very limited information on your ticket 4. On the return be prepared to stand in the sun to wait for the ferry back to Cairns. There is nowhere to sit for the elderly, disabled or people with babies/infants. There is no shade if you're at the front section of the line (on the dock) 5. No communication about where to queue for what boat, no signs of people guiding you etc so everyone just stands in the same line and hopes they get on the correct boat. Not a problem if you know the name of your boat unless they send a different one which is what happened to us. Also if you're returning at 4pm everyone gets told to be back for 3.45pm so again all passengers from all boats in the same line The walk to Nudey beach is short and shaded but it is not flat and had large rocks/boulder steps. Therefore, if you are a family taking older people (grandparents) or people who are unable to walk these kinds of tracks they will struggle to get to Nudey beach. Snorkeling on Nudey beach was good, spotted: Small spotted Manta Rays, 1 Turtle and plenty of fish. Snorkeling seemed better earlier in the day to spot these kinds of sealife. We went in July 2nd. Water wasn't cold once you were in, very nice temperature and Nudey beach has plenty of trees for shade.
