Mercure Sunshine Coast Kawana Waters

We stayed one night to break up our journey home. Room 107 was good, didn’t notice any stains or mould, linen was clean, provided cups and glasses were adequate. King bed was comfortable. The small bathroom has a waterfall shower that did flood the floor, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were once on the wall but that fitting has been ripped off and the bottles now sit on the shower shelf, not much room for your own toiletries. There was also hand gel and lotion bottles at the hand basin. They provide a bottle to get water from the filter station (out of order on level one, so need to go to another floor), the jug is difficult to fill. They have happy hour 4-6 and a restaurant (with limited offers). We went to the Thai restaurant that was a few minutes walk away, which I highly recommend. We did have cheesecake at the hotel restaurant afterwards, which was delicious. Breakfast is offered at $32pp. Unsecured open area parking was only option. Overall, it was a convenient location, in a quiet area and staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Avoid this place if possible and definitely do not stay in Room 126. Once I arrived in the room I was hit with a pungent wave of cigarettes, urine and maybe even mould??? (I saw what could be black mould on a window sill) My throat and lungs were scratchy and uncomfortable even after 30 minutes of being in there. Tried to contact the front desk, but the room phone was unplugged and still didn’t work when plugged in. I didn’t even get an answer calling from my mobile. After going down to reception I was told there is absolutely no other room available. They could not even manage a room at a nearby Accor / alternative hotel. I waited 2 hours in the lobby waiting for a new room. When I finally got one, the shower water floods all over the bathroom floor no matter what you do! Very poorly built and maintained hotel. It needs serious attention.

Nice spot away from the busy city centre areas. Nice and close to the Sunshine Coast uni hospital and adjoining bus station to take you to most of the main areas in the region. There’s a shopping centre about a 15min walk away with a Coles and Aldi plus a good choice of other stores and food outlets. Room was clean and tidy and bed was very comfy for being two beds pushed together. The blackout curtains work so well, we didn’t realise the time of morning it was.

Fantastic stay! Checked in earlier before heading out for the day and was a super easy transition in the evening. Room was clean, tidy and spacious. Great location too.
