Miles Historical Village Museum is one of Australia's leading regional museums. It was officially opened in 1971 and over the years has developed into one of the region's premier tourism attractions.
The Village was the vision of some very inspiring community members whose aim was to create a place where history could be preserved and presented in a 'streetscape' style, as it was back in the day. There are over 34 buildings housing amazing collections and bringing a bygone era to life. Some of these include a coach house, blacksmith, general store, post office, bakery, union hotel, barber, chemist, café, bank, hospital and a butcher shop.
In addition to the streetscape shops, there are significant collection displays including The Artesian Basin Centre, Norman Donpon Lapidary Display, War Museum, Mr G Morgan Shell House and many more. Many of the collections are comprised of items generously donated by keen enthusiasts from all over Australia.

We absolutely loved this village. They say it's huge. Well, they're right. If you love a good museum with lots to look at and love to read everything, give yourself all day to do this one. We arrived at 10:30am and were still there at 3pm. There is no food available so bring something to eat. Or better still get a pass-out to come back a second day. There is so much to see and read allow yourself plenty of time. It is a fantastic museum. We found it by accident. Thankyou for your display. We loved it.
Super friendly reception. Something for everyone here, even if you're not a fan of country museums. In addition to the extensive collection of old town items, and building reconstructions they have pretty comprehensive rock and shell collections, and a water exhibit, and a steam train. We were rushed and still took us nearly 2 hours to visit each exhibit.
What a place! So much to see. There is essentially a whole historical township here. All sorts of old stores and shops. A great lapidary exhibit and a shell display. A must see if you're in Miles. Don't forget your water... it could be a long day!
This was a very informative, well layed out, historical museum. We spent 2 hours exploring the displays. Attendant was friendly and helpful.
What a great place to see history. The huge collection of shells and petrified timber/mineral rocks is incredible. Heaps of parking for long vehicles.
