We had a lovely week at Spicers Clovelly. We stayed in a spa room. The bed was super comfy, and decent amenities. The room felt a bit tired and in need of TLC. Windows and air vents were mouldy. Carpet stained. Underfloor heating kept on cutting out. I’m being picky because this isn’t a cheap place to stay. On the positive, the staff were lovely and very welcoming. They made the whole ambiance super relaxed and welcoming. Brekkie was another highlight each morning, and compliments to the chef. We tried each and every dish!! Lovely Having stayed at Tamarind Spicers before, this version lacked a social space for folks to enjoy outside the room. There’s no couch or chairs in the room, so if you want to read with a relaxing cuppa, you have to sit on the bed. As a licenced venue you can’t sit and have a drink anywhere outside of your room. Thanks to the staff for making it memorable.
Location, service, food were all a great experience. Staff in Long Apron were excellent. This venue has a lovely, homely ambience. Our tour with Franz around the gardens and his information on the history of the property was wonderful. Thank you Franz. Our coffee machine in our room did not work properly. It was replaced but same issue! Our connection to this venue has spanned many years. We always feel so at home each time we come and stay.
We recently stayed at Spicers Clovelly Estate and overall had a very enjoyable visit. From check in the property felt peaceful, welcoming, warm and cozy, and the team made us feel at ease straight away. The lounge area and wine selection before dinner were excellent, and it was lovely walking around the grounds, even though the weather was on and off rain during our stay. Unfortunately, the morning of our departure was disappointing. We were woken at around 7:20am by knocking on our door, which may have been a mistake, followed by quite a lot of noise, what sounded like coat hangers banging, loud talking and general disruptions until about 7:45am. When we left the room at around 8am, we noticed that maintenance appeared to be replacing a hot water pump in the room next door. It was surprising that this kind of work was being carried out so early in the morning, particularly in a setting that is otherwise so quiet and relaxing.
From the outset and throughout, this was a wonderful experience. Pre-arrival communication with Brittany made check-in and room allocation seamless (traveling with my parents). The FOH team were always warm and welcoming. The restaurant, the Long Apron, is beautiful although the temperature was quite chilly and food came a bit cool (acknowledged and addressed immediately); bedrooms also set at 19 degrees makes for a cold arrival. A note of acknowledgment to Franz and the landscaping / maintenance team - the property is well-appointed and gardens are immaculate. Thank you to everyone who made this visit extra special along with all the finer details / small touches.
I've been to Spicers (Clovelly and Tamarind) several times before and been wowed from start to finish. This time at Clovelly? Thoroughly disappointed from start to finish. Poor service, poorly cleaned room, ordinary food. A card in the room advised me to call the General Manager for assistance after 4pm; after 3 hours of no response I'm finally told the General Manager is overseas for two weeks: who then responds to the calls? No-one, apparently: I should wait till the morning when some senior staff should be available. Unacceptable, especially for what is supposed to be premium accommodation. Appears to have gone significantly down hill since the change of ownership. Shame. Will not be coming back.
