The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology is situated in Caboolture, an hour north of Brisbane. It has one of the finest collections of European and Classical artefacts open to the public in Australia. The collection covers over a million years of world history and endeavours to educate and inspire through its displays and public programs. The Museum's collection includes prehistoric artefacts, ceramics, glass, stained glass, metalwork, woodwork, lacquer, sculptures, manuscripts and rare books, Renaissance and Baroque paintings, watercolours, icons and frescos.
The annual Abbey Medieval Festival – which is a vital fund raiser for the Museum - brings to life the colour, pageantry and excitement of Medieval Europe. Medieval re-enactors, musicians and street performers from across Australia and overseas join in a vibrant display of life in the Middle Ages. This tells just one of the stories of the Abbey Museum collection, but they have many stories to tell.
Opened in February 2025, the Museum now has an Art Gallery, with an exhibition "Inspired Images: The Art of Faiths", which explores human history through works inspired by diverse spiritual beliefs. The collection includes medieval, renaissance and baroque paintings and sculptures, ceramics, stained glass, and works on paper.
Guests are now welcome to enjoy a coffee and light refreshment at the Abbey Cafe.

We had such a wonderful visit to the Abbey Museum! The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and so accommodating to children, which made the whole experience really enjoyable and stress-free. There was so much to see and learn—so many interesting exhibits that kept both the kids and adults engaged. It’s a great mix of history, culture, and hands-on learning, with something for everyone—including children. They also have a lovely, affordable gift shop with plenty of great finds, which was a nice bonus at the end of our visit. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking for a unique and enriching day out. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you for an enriching start to our weekend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We visited here for the Knight at the museum event. This small but robust presentation of arts and artifacts was very interesting. Ben, one of the spokesmen gave a lively demonstration of armours and weapons of medieval times, craftsmanship notes and more details about the time period. Other staff were dressed for the occasion which certainly made the experience more engaging. The museum featured other artifacts and items of various cultures which had me very interested. We will return in time for more events, cheers! Good place to check out.
Great festival, once again. Entry queues were looonnnggg. And it seemed more crowded than years past. Great costumes though.
Amazing, informative and so engaging. Came today as a birthday gift for my mum as we both love history.
We took our 2 boys (aged 5 & 7) to attend the Kids Dig It! school holiday program. The boys really enjoyed it - especially the archeological dig and archery. The parents really enjoyed it too - we even got a turn with the bow and arrow! Would recommend!!
