This boutique heritage-themed accommodation is inspired by the style of the pioneer era and by the stagecoach journeys that linked Longreach with the outside world.
Situated in the heritage heart of town, you'll be living and dreaming the outback story. There is a choice of room styles. All have ensuites, very comfortable beds, air-conditioning, TV and free Wi-Fi – plus clever pioneer-inspired features and lovingly crafted quirks that create an unforgettable sense of place.
The Staging Post is owned and operated by the Kinnon family who have a reputation for creating unique accommodation that tells the outback story. It's all a few steps from The Welcome Home, where big breakfasts and outback dining provide fuel for your days of exploration.
The room styles include The Stables, which feature a rustic-luxe aesthetic. The Stables take their inspiration from the stables where the Cobb & Co horse teams were cared for under the watchful eyes of the grooms. The Coach Inn, which is located behind The Welcome Home are self-catering.

These spacious, boutique rooms are ideal for people who appreciate a little extra luxury and the quirky inspiration of the stables where the Cobb & Co horses were housed. There are many little touches that will wow guests, from the unique copper-piped rain-shower to the barbed-wire-and-rose wall art to the milk-fridge in a repurposed cabinet. Configuration: 1 queen bed and 1 single bed. There are also two Stables Family Rooms with 1 queen bed and 3 single beds. Facilities: Feature ensuite, air-conditioning, TV, microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, free wifi, shared landscaped courtyard with seating.
The decor was so well done to mimic the Wild West. The staff were lovely and a delight. The food was nice too but maybe a tad higher than expected compared to surrounding pubs and diners. The room was spacious clean and tidy. The feedback from other reviews show they listened based on what we had in our room. The cons for us is the aircon, so noisy kicking in it jolted us awake. So the second night we turned it off and wore our winter wear to bed so we didn’t freeze. Bed was quite soft and pillows quite firm. Can make for an interesting sleep but I forgot my own pillow so I blame myself.
I loved my experience staying at The Staging Post from beginning to end! When I arrived, I was immediately impressed by the country-style decor in the reception area, and by the politeness and attentiveness of the lady at reception, whose name I apologize for not remembering. I stayed one night in The Coach Inn, room 22, which charmed me from the start. Thank you, Joe, for organizing and making the room smell so wonderful! I thought the bottle of milk in the fridge was really cool! It added a special touch! I wasn't going to stay for a second night, but I ended up meeting the founder of Outback Pioneers, Mr. Richard, who told me more about the history of the place and the city, and I wanted to stay another night. Now I had the pleasure of staying in "The Stables," room 8, and what an upgrade! The entire decor impressed me, as well as the cleanliness and coziness I felt. Thank you so much, Sophie, for the cleanliness and organization of this room! For me, both experiences were well worth it, and the price wasn't different from other nearby hotels. What impressed me was learning about the history of the place and knowing that the family runs the business together. Learning about the history made all the difference! I even ate the "Big Breakfast" ($25.44 - with the discount we found in the room) before leaving, which helped me not eat anything else until the afternoon hahaha it was very good and with many options! Impossible to try everything! When I arrived, on the first day, I ate the "Country Classics Dining" ($49 - I hadn't seen the room discount yet, but it's worth checking your room before going to the restaurant), which was well worth it, as I wanted something different and local, which I found in this dinner, since the other food options around are just more of the same that we already find every day. In short: it's worth checking out! Too bad I didn't have time to participate in the other Outback Pioneers experiences.
Beautiful little motel/hotel. A little on the pricey side but it is decked out with everything you need and more. Located in central Longreach, short walk to the town centre, food and drink options. Not meals available on a Sunday which is the day we were there. Short drive to the Qantas Founders Museuem
OMG what a find! Love this place and would stay again. A bit pricey but we were ready for better than motel accommodation. So many lovely touches - and the shower is awesome. If you’re weird about open bathrooms then maybe this one’s not for you (the bathroom only really has canvas curtains for privacy. But for us - we loved it all!
We stayed in one of the Family Rooms. Very spacious and clean. Full-size fridge and everything you need for a family stay. We loved the polished concrete floors and the high standard of furnishings. Note: After unloading/loading your car, parking is on the street (plenty) only. Excellent location in centre of town.
