Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers in the beautiful Northern Rivers Hinterland town of Tyalgum, NSW.
From a humble beginning of housing aged horses, the project grew over the years as more animals were gifted from all over the region, as people came to know of the sanctuary as a place of refuge and care for retired, unwell or unwanted animals.
Eventually, people all over Australia started to give their animals to them. Caring for and house more than 100 rescued animals consisting of Horses - full size and miniature; a family of Alpacas from Nimbin with a passport from Afghanistan; wild Goats from the desert of Western Australia; Sheep; Emus from Victoria; Italian Sheepdogs; rescue Cats; a 400kg Pig with tusks (called Pumba); Doves; Chickens; Ducks and Guinea Pigs.
The Sanctuary opens twice a year, in Spring and Autumn to receive tourists through an organized garden tour. Start in Flutterbies Cottage cafe with a Devonshire tea, walk through the beautiful gardens of the Garden of Light and finish the tour meeting furry friends.
See you soon! Don't forget to pat the dogs!
My nephews absolutely enjoyed their time at Noah’s Ark Sanctuary. The staff were welcoming. My babies enjoyed the stroll, They were so entertained by the different animals they didn’t even realize they were walking. At the end of the walk there is a very well maintained play ground that finished the excursion off nicely! There were bears, parrots, goats, donkeys, ponies, monkeys, porcupines, white foxes. Definitely worth the money and visit!
The sanctuary is much larger than I imagined and I appreciated how spread out everything was. The foxes and jackals were the most interested in me but I saw the tiger, lion, pigs, lemurs, miniature horses, goats, parrots and more! Only $5 entry!
This is a great place for smaller kids to attend. Not many animals there but they had enough to keep you entertained. Lions, bears, and wolves were the favorite hands down. The staff is ultra friendly and welcoming. We would definitely be back just because.
Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary is about 10 minutes off Interstate 75 and was such a nice little break from being in the car. If you’re traveling with little ones who are getting fidgety, it’s definitely worth the quick detour. The grounds are spacious with picnic tables, a playground, and plenty of room to walk around. There are enough animals and little interactions along the way to keep kids interested and excited. For us it was the perfect stop to stretch our legs, slow down for a bit, and let the kids burn off some energy before getting back on the road. Simple, relaxed, and a really pleasant stop during a long drive.
This was a great outing, rescued animals. You. A visit and pet and take lots of pictures the lion and tiger were too tired and didn’t really get up but we’ll get back. Prices are very affordable, plenty parking , handicapped approved, lots of walking wear comfortable shoes! Listen to the employee telling you about the trail so you know which animals are available, where you can and cannot go. They’re are very informative and helpful, listening is appreciative. A couple food trucks out here would be great, however that would probably cause a litter problem which they don’t currently have. So recommend eating before, BRINGING YOUR OWN FOOD (there is plenty resting eating space) come or have plans to eat afterwards, the icy truck was great for the weather this day!
