Loved the day spent here, what a huge park!! Staff were all lovely and very knowledgeable. It was great to see how passionate they are about what they do in the park. Loved the bird show too and the thorny devil encounter was pretty special! As everything is quite spaced out you do get some aviaries/enclosures to yourself for a bit which is peaceful, Highly recommend going xx
As far as experiencing a lot of Northern Territory animals in enclosures, its pretty good. You get to see a lot of animals that are rare, endangered and nocturnal. The layout of the park is really great and as much about the botanically diverse area at the base of gnarley red "mountain" range. So many flowering plants in late July. My daughter and I easily spent 4 hours here, marvelling at the similar species of plants to our Tasmanian home.
The Desert Park was absolutely beautiful. The free-flying bird show was excellent, and the grounds are wonderfully designed. The nocturnal house was really great and spacious. Right next to it, there is also a fantastic cafe and a playground for the little ones. We highly recommend a visit here to anyone traveling to Alice Springs.
A great experience, definitely catch the bird show, short but very entertaining and educational. One of the nicest nocturnal houses I have ever seen, most animals were visible and active. Rest of park is very nice and café has good food and drink options.
I'm a member now. Every time someone visits we take them, every time I think, so I have to go again, and everytime I love it all over again. Chilpie and Min Min (the dingoes, sorry if I have miss spelt their names), the bird show with Bruce (a cheeky little bird, like a wagtail, who just rocks up), the randy bandicoots (or numbers), beautiful walks and even a great section on stones for knapping! (Stone tool making) The keepers are amazing and so are all the other staff there. I've even had an event there and it was exceptional. Love seeing and meeting the dingoes when they're out for a walk. My favourite place in Alice, well, besides Milners meats.
