Located on the edge of Litchfield National Park, Zebra Stone is a unique, family-owned gallery where ancient history meets modern artistry. This small business offers visitors a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of the Australian Outback found nowhere else on Earth.
Zebra Stone is world-renowned for its striking, natural rhythmic iron patterns. Formed over 1.2 billion years ago, the stone remains a geological mystery, with scientists still debating how its precise patterns were created. Originally found in the East Kimberley, this rare material now only exists in isolated pockets of the Northern Territory.
The family team manages the entire journey of the stone, from the labor-intensive mining process to the final, high-gloss polish. Every item is hand-cut, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. The exclusive collection features handcrafted jewellery, sculptural homewares, and bespoke stone tables.
To maintain the integrity of the work and sustainability of resource, Zebra Stone sells exclusively to the public via its own gallery. This allows visitors to meet the family and gain first hand insight into the mining and manufacturing process. It is an essential destination for those seeking a rare, ancient treasure from the heart of the Northern Territory.

If you’re in the area, this is an absolute must. It is fascinating to see the different stones that they have. Ruth and daughter Opal are so nice and passionate about these unique rock formations. You might be lucky enough to see a baby crocodile too!?
Well worth a visit. Ruth, Kim and Opal run a great family business with rare and fascinating stone. Glad we went!
AMAZING you must visit if driving by. Only natural to Australia. Small family owned company who could do with your patronage.
Absolutely amazing, these Zebra stones are over 1 BILLLION years old and are found only in one mine in Australia. You can purchase stones, necklaces, rings, earings and now huge slabs at very reasonable prices! Ruth who owns and runs the gallery is so knowledgeable. Absolutely a must while visiting the NT
Everything was amazing here! The campground was cheap, the toilet and showers were clean, and the campground big. We loved to hear Ruth talk about the Zebra stones, the theories behind them and why they got into mining them. Don’t be shy to ask questions, she was so helpful with answering and telling stories. If you find something nice (which you probably will) don’t hesitate to take a piece of geological history home with you, and to support this family’s business. The prices of the stones and jewelry range from 10-1000+ AUD but everything is priced fairly.
