The Finke 2 Mile campground sits on the Finke River, near the Mt Sonder Lookout in the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, around 130 kilometres west of Alice Springs.
The campground is accessible by 4WD only. Campers need to be fully self sufficient, as no facilities are provided. Camping fees apply and campsites must be booked online before you arrive.
Finke 2 Mile is an ideal spot for 4 wheel drivers to base themselves to escape the busier campgrounds and explore the West MacDonnell Ranges.
The campground also provides access to Section 11 of the Larapinta Trail.
Popular camping area within the West MacDonnell National Park for good reason. Plenty of water in the river when we visited, and lots of bird life including water birds, owls and eagles. Sand is relatively soft, however lots of places to pull up off the river bed if you're in a heavy rig. No facilities, you must be self-contained and self sufficient at this site. ig: adventure__unlimited yt: adventureunlimited
Awesome spot to camp by the river! Stick to the right when you first drive in (down to the left is boggy sand). Campfires, scenery… lovely spot!
A great stretch of sites nestled alongside the river. It's quiet and had a good vibe. Be warned, if there's a cold snap you'll be waking up to a good dusting of morning frost ❄️ No facilities.
A fantastic spot to camp up and explore the West Macs. No amenities and booking with national parks is a must. Let your tyres down and bag a spot where you can watch the sun set over one of the oldest rivers in the world.
Drive right into the river over the pebbles for the best spots to set up camp. Great sandy river bed. No facilities
