We loved visiting the heritage museum. Exhibits were wonderful and some interactive. Multi-level buildings, brilliant displays ranging machinery, mining, and historical local industries and living. Lovely informative staff members and gift store with great range of tourist gifts and crystal and minerals. Lovely little street library also inside the gift store. We could have definitely spent longer walking around the self guided buildings. So much to see, some overwhelming stories told throughout the very well put together displays. We will return again.
Definitely worth the visit. It’s a typical museum with lots of interesting pieces. But the incredible bit is it’s all left as is the day it got closed down. Lots of interaction and working displays to show exactly what it was like. Only feedback would be to cage in the lift tower so public can go all the way to the top! They even had a working and relatively in tune piano upstairs! This was my highlight as a pianist to be able to take a short break and just play for a while. The staff were friendly knowledgeable for a chat over the history and any other questions.
We spent about 2 hours here. I found it very emotional about the miners rescue. Brought back so many memories from the morning they were both rescued. I would definitely recommend coming here. I can still remember my David Boon Victoria bitter doll. Started talking as they excited the mine
What a fantastic place to visit, I rate it as good as the tourist mine in Kalgoorlie, alas there is not an underground component but the exhibits are hands on making it very interesting for the kiddos as well. The mine itself ceased operation in 2012 6 years after the famous mine rescue. Do yourself a favour and make this a stop on your journey
People old enough remember Beaconsfield for the wrong reasons where a mine collapse trapped two men underground for almost 14 days back in 2006 but tragically a third man died in the shaft. The picture of the cage shows the space the two men were stuck in for that time which was about 1.5 metres in area. The heritage centre also gives you a good perspective of what life was like over 100 years ago. The Beaconsfield Walk of Gold also has some interesting stories to tell.
