    Notice of 1080 ongoing program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 20 July 2026 to Friday 11 December 2026. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will take place in Jervis Bay National Park.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Please contact the local Shoalhaven NPWS area office for more information on 02 4428 6300.

About

A spot mainly known to locals, Red Point picnic area provides access to the white sandy beaches on the northern shores of Jervis Bay, set within a sanctuary zone of Jervis Bay Marine Park. From here, you can enjoy glorious views south out across Jervis Bay and to nearby Red Point.

The wide-open area is sheltered from the dominant summer breeze and has several tables and a toilet, making it an ideal picnic spot. From here, you can also easily launch a kayak out into the bay or take a walk to Hare Point, either along the beach or follow the old sand track through the bush.
