I ordered the Picnic Rug as I wanted something multi-person and hard wearing enough to withstand my cat who loves this blanket as much as I do. Beautiful rich colour, warm but not bulky or heavy. Even though it's sold as a picnic blanket I use it inside the house moving it between the couch and the bed. No issues with itching but i'm layering it over long pants and shirt but when it comes in direct contact with skin no issues. Obviously it's a thicker courser wool as it's not a soft merino bed blanket. Would recommend this if you need something multi-purpose and a bit tougher.
One of the best things to do in Launceston and for me it was number one on my list of things to do, is to visit the Waverley Wollen Mills What an incredible experience I had when I visited, I was so lucky to have the most amazing lady, Penny, take me on a tour. Her knowledge of the process from the sheep’s back to a finished product is nothing short of exceptional. I loved hearing how all the scarves, blankets, throws and picnic rugs are produced with 100% Tasmanian wool, alpaca wool or recycled wool. I purchased a beautiful alpaca scarf. PS Don’t forget to grab yourself a best seller the ‘Bay of Fire’ design and colours in throw or blanket. At my accommodation at a bed-and-breakfast in Launceston i discovered a blanket from Waverley Woollen Mills which must be possibly 40+ years old and it still looks fabulous. A testimony to the quality of the products produced. Thank you to the lovely team at the Waverley Woollen Mills and I wish you every success for the future.
Had a lovely tour with Penny. At the end you feel like you need to pay twice the amount for a blanket after going on the tour — it's so labor intensive! The heritage and dedication to craftsmanship is seriously admirable. Manufacturing in Australia has only become rarer. Was also very kindly looked after by a lovely lady in the shop. She took extra care in ordering me a taxi when I had no reception. Could have asked for a better experience!
I bought my First Waverley mills Stuart tartan blanket seven years ago and it's still like new today it's super soft and very warm and it looks amazing. It's nice to see that some things are STILL made in Australia and I'm very happy to support an Australian business and its important to support Made in Australia as we all benefit from it . I'm very surprised you only have 3 tartan blanket to choose from today. 🙂
We have purchased a number of their blankets. Excellent quality. Even the cat enjoys them!
