The Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum celebrates the little-known history of Carnarvon's role in the manned space program and the Australian communications industry.
The museum focuses on two parts, the Carnarvon Tracking Station and the Overseas Telecommunications Commission (OTC) Satellite Earth Station, for which each station played separate roles in the early space industry.
It will be great fun for the kids, and the adults will learn all about Carnarvon’s role in the space race.
Amazing museum! If I could, I would give it 10 stars! Everything is fascinating, and the staff are truly exceptional. A special mention goes to Simon, who went above and beyond to help my dad, who is a bit claustrophobic, still enjoy the capsule experience. The museum is engaging, informative, and easy to follow. I learned so much during my visit. For example, I had no idea that Australia played such an important role in the Apollo missions, or that humans have landed on the Moon multiple times. Seeing the dish in person was incredible, and enjoying a complimentary hot coffee surrounded by spacecraft and space exploration history made the experience even more memorable. A fantastic visit that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in space, science, or Australian history. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This place was well worth the visit!!! Worth the 20 dollars , the history is amazing I am so glad that they have kept the old tech in such good condition. Amazing to see how the antennas and satellites were used by NASA track the moon missions. The old antenna site is about 5 minutes down the road but unfortunately it’s just an abandoned site with a “caution asbestos” sign on the gate. One tiny little change I would make is to allow access to the big antenna dish on the hill that would make the museum very unique. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The simulators also added to the exhibit. It was very hands on!! We got a lovely magnet in the gift shop that will stay on our fridge door. I would certainly recommend and would love to return in the future hopefully if they open the large antenna dish for tours.
Fantastic place to learn about space travel. There are some excellent interactive displays that would be great for kids (our group was only adults) but still plenty to see. It doesn't look massive from outside but lots of displays and movies inside. The new sections added more recently include a replica of the Apollo 11 moon lander.
Great spot to learn about our involvement with the apollo missions. Great for kids. Lots of interactive displays. Good entry prices.
Great experience...its amazing what we did in those days and the antique equipment that was used... the place is in need of repairs.. paint, some covers falling off etc and need to be worked on. I know it's run by volunteers but in the end the place will fall apart.
