Army Museum of Western Australia

About
The Army Museum of Western Australia provides visitors with an opportunity to explore an extensive collection of army history. Housed in the impressive turn of the century Artillery Barracks in Fremantle, you should allow at least a couple of hours to see the museum.
The Army display focuses on the armed forces role in the great wars of history including World War I and II, Vietnam War, the Korean War and later peacekeeping and Middle Eastern war theatres. It also looks more specifically at Western Australian soldiers and their involvement in each war. View the numerous displays of photographs, documentation, uniforms, weapons and vehicles, which together form the second largest collection of its kind in Australia.
Admire the three Victoria Crosses which were awarded to Western Australian soldiers along with other military medals of significance.
The Barracks are also worth investigating. Built in the early 1900s, they played a significant role during World War II when Fremantle was home to the largest submarine fleet in the Southern Hemisphere.
The museum has an extensive schedule of school group tours and always welcome groups from clubs and similar organizations. Refer to the website for details of tour bookings. Come Hear Our Stories

Loved the museum! As someone who personally really loves learning about the history of countries I visit and a history student, this was a really meaningful experience. The exhibits were quite in depth and I got to learn a lot about Australia's army! Some of the items in the museum were also interactive, and that was really cool imo. I was also given a codebreaker activity which enriched my visit. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Fremantle :D

Absolutely great place, love the mix of different nations items, the Grant having a ladder that you can stand on to see is absolute! Me and my dad had great time there, one Reccomendation is to have just a few more fans to keep the place cool, love the gift shop, the gift shops are my favourite parts of most museums, loved the old fellas in there, friendly and overall awesome, 5 stars on spot no hesitation!

Had a great visit to the Military Museum. It is a lovely curated muesum, with some brilliant exhibits, My son is absolutely Tank-Mad at the moment, and they had some really nice restorations to see. Basically covering most Australian military history in the museum, it gives a great sense of pride, and a good insight to the ANZACS. The museum does show a bit of both sides of the war, and the prisoner of war exhibit was the only part we kept our son away from. It wasnt too bad, but for youngens' it might just be a bit confronting. Thank you to the lovely people there who keep the place so well maintained. It was a pleasure talking to you and listening to your great many a wisdoms. Ill be back in a few years!

I recently visited the museum and was extremely impressed with everything there. The exhibits were fascinating, very well presented, and gave a real insight into Australia’s military history. What made the visit even more special was how welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful all of the staff and volunteers were. Their passion and dedication really stood out and added so much to the experience. I went there to see the VC medal of a friend's Uncle, Martin O'Meara. Seeing such an important part of his history being so respectfully displayed meant a great deal. A truly wonderful museum that I would highly recommend visiting.
