Built in 1897, Fremantle Markets is one of the port city’s most significant landmarks and has rightfully earned itself a reputation as one of the best destinations in Fremantle for locals and tourists alike, as well as a leading source of independent wares and produce.
Fremantle Markets houses a family of stallholders from encouraging young local talent such as designers and artists, launching the careers of budding musicians including John Butler to creating a hub of events for visitors.
Housed in an historic, heritage-listed building, its unique bohemian atmosphere has made it the best and most well-known market in Western Australia.
We visited the Fremantle Markets on a Saturday and absolutely loved the vibe! It’s a wonderful, historic spot right near the coast with a great energy. There is a fantastic variety of stalls to explore, from fresh fruits and vegetables to unique art, souvenirs, and plenty of delicious snacks. It’s a great place to experience the local culture as a family. Do be prepared for it to be quite busy—it was much more crowded than we anticipated! Because of the high foot traffic, the narrow alleys can feel a bit tight, and we felt the facilities, particularly the toilets, could use some upgrades to better handle the crowds. Despite that, it’s still a must-visit for the atmosphere and the sheer range of goods on offer.
A must-visit destination when you're in Fremantle! 🛍️✨ Fremantle Markets has such a vibrant and lively atmosphere, with an incredible variety of stalls selling everything from local crafts and souvenirs to fresh produce, clothing, gifts, and unique handmade products. We spent hours walking around and still felt like there was more to explore. One of the things I loved most was the variety of shopping choices. Whether you're looking for a special souvenir, local products, or simply browsing, there's something for everyone. Of course, I can't forget the food! 😋 The French toast was absolutely delicious — perfectly prepared and a great treat while exploring the market. The hot chocolate was equally impressive, rich and comforting, making it the perfect pairing. Highlights: - 🛍️ Huge variety of shops and local vendors - 🎁 Great place to find unique gifts and souvenirs - 🍓 Fresh produce and local products - 🍞 Amazing French toast - ☕ Rich and delicious hot chocolate - 🎶 Fun and lively market atmosphere The market has a wonderful mix of food, shopping, and local culture, making it a great place to spend a few hours with family or friends. Fremantle Markets is one of those places where history and modern culture come together so naturally. Established in 1897, the market has kept its heritage charm while evolving into a vibrant, contemporary space filled with local creativity, food, and small businesses. Walking through it, you can really feel that mix of old and new — from the historic building itself to the modern stalls and diverse crowd. I’ve visited three times now, and I still genuinely enjoy spending my weekends here. There’s always something to discover. You’ll find a wide variety of products, from handmade body care items to high-quality clothing, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s a great spot if you like supporting local makers and trying something a bit different. The atmosphere is lively and definitely on the crowded side, especially on weekends — but if you enjoy that kind of energy, this is absolutely your place. There’s a buzz in the air that makes the whole experience feel exciting and full of life. Overall, Fremantle Markets is more than just a place to shop — it’s an experience that blends history, community, and creativity in a way that keeps me coming back.
I visited on a weekend afternoon. The Victorian exterior, marked "1897," creates a historical atmosphere. While lively, the building's design allows for a pleasant stroll. There are many unique antiques and clothes. The food area offers diverse cuisines, but narrow aisles make finding seats difficult. It opens Friday to Sunday. Visit early as some shops sell out by evening.
A very lively market made of small markets, supporting local business and its really good to be here. Also, the street foods are really worth it. Best place to be.
