    1080 pest management operation

    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 August 2026 and 31 January 2027 in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

    Do not touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

    All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

    Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

    Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

If you like to mix things up a bit, you can’t miss Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head loop track. The long walk leads along Bobbin Head trail past open forests of smooth barked apple gum and red bloodwoods to Empire Marina Bobbin Head and historic Halvorsen’s boatshed before arriving at Bobbin Head.

To save on the park entry fee, I parked outside the national park, which worked out perfectly. I tackled the loop in an anti-clockwise direction, and I have to say, it was the best decision! The most picturesque part of the walk runs along the river, with stunning views of Cowan Creek. The combination of gorgeous trees and natural shade made it an absolute treat. I took a 30-minute break at Bobbin Head to sip some water and use the facilities, which was a great midway point. The return leg was much simpler—a straight path with not much scenery—but it made for an easy way to finish the walk. Overall, the track was relatively easy, and the whole experience, including the break, took me just under three hours. If you’re looking for a walk that’s accessible and not too challenging, with some truly stunning views along the way, this one’s worth checking out!
