The Kodja Place is the story of country Australia as experienced by one farming community in South Western Australia. It incorporates state-of-the-art design and technologies with the simple directness of the traditional Noongar style of storytelling.
Built around the “One Story Many Voices”, The Kodja Place includes the farm experience, life on the reserve, the heartfelt stories of early settlers, the aspirations of the young and our hopes for the future. Sit in the school bus, drive the farm ute, walk the boards of the shearing shed; check the rain gauge and the farm budget.
Outside, lose yourself in a maze of Australian-bred roses while you follow the stories of the three women Yoondi the Noongar, Elizabeth the English settler and Maria the Italian migrant, and watch the evolution of the Australian pergola. Sit at the Noongar campfire, hear the stories, and meet the people.
Built to strengthen reconciliation between the people that make up this community, the centre has involved hundreds of local people. It was created by the community whose story it presents.
All this has been built around the Kodja – the Noongar stone axe from which Kojonup and the centre draw their name.

Stopped here on out way south to Albany. Black Cockatoo Cafe - food and drink was excellent. Burger and steak sandwich were great, kids loved the massive serves of chips too. Milkshakes and smoothies were really tasty and great value. Staff were friendly and helpful.
A bit disappointed we stopped in to Kojonup at 11.45am on the way back to Perth from Albany and wanted to go to the visitor centre but was closed even though it says it’s open 7days a week 9am-4pm. Google said it was open and nothing on socials to say it was closed for today. Watched many other people walk up to it to find it closed also.
We had a chance to revisit so much Australian heritage and culture. Great place to visit with family and kids. Informative and well maintained.
I've been wanting to stop here and take my time for years, but am always so rushed. This place is just beautiful. Local history covering yesteryear, shearing, flora, fauna plus the visitor centre, Cafe next door. A gorgeous display of freshly picked (with pickers license) wildflowers and native orchids that smelled divine. A really interesting stop and browse and well worth it.
It's a good place to stop by and relax. We came on a public holiday (Queen's Birthday), it was not busy, and everything was open. There's an outdoor rose maze garden, a gift shop, cafe, and museum.
