Cleland National Park conserves an important area of bushland situated in the Adelaide Hills face zone. A fantastic network of walking and cycling trails introduces you to the diverse native wildlife, cultural heritage and spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills and surrounds.
This park features the internationally popular Cleland Wildlife Park, Mt Lofty Summit and the scenic Waterfall Gully, all of which can be explored using the extensive network of walking and cycling trails.
One of South Australia's most popular walking trails traverses this unique area from Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty Summit.
There is also a selection of trails and fire tracks where you can ride your mountain bike on shared use trails within the park. Some of these popular trails include the Cleland link trail between Crafers and Mt Lofty, Wine Shanty trail, Chambers and Adventure loops.
A quick note on these reviews: Cleland National Park and Cleland Wildlife Park are two separate experiences that have been mixed here. The National Park itself is free to enter and perfect for hiking, while the Wildlife Park (where you can see animals up close) requires a paid ticket.
If you’re here for the trails, I can’t recommend the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty hike enough.
• It’s a roughly 4km trek to the summit. Be prepared to sweat—there are some pretty solid inclines that will definitely get your heart rate up!
• It usually takes about an hour to reach the top. The descent is much easier on the lungs (though a bit steeper on the knees).
• Hot tip: Go in the morning. It’s much cooler, and the way the morning light peaks through the forest canopy is absolutely stunning.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a solid workout with a rewarding view at the top (and a coffee at the cafe). 😄

Such a lovely Park. Calm and meditative walks with numbers of native birds and butterflies. It's a pity that we came in the dry season. I spotted 6 different species of orchids, but they either finished their flowering or haven't opened yet :( I would assume there were heaps of them in Spring 🌱 Anyway, koalas (in the wild, not in sanctuary!) and various plants in flower made our day!

Although the weather was a bit gloomy, overall
I had an awesome experience at the park. There was a ride array of native animals spread throughout the park, easy access for viewing, and a clean well maintained path to explore. Each section had adequate information on the animals that reside there. The animals are used to being approached and are friendly when visitors quietly and calmly approach them. The team was great at answering any questions we had and overall it was a good first park experience. I definitely recommend.
