A round trip from Bathurst going through the Turon State Forest, along with Winburndale Nature Reserve and through Sunny Corner State Forest.
Much of the forest is managed by the State Forestry Corporation for pine plantation and timber production. Visitors are encouraged to observe all on-site signage regarding road closures, forestry operations, and restricted areas.
Logging trucks and forestry vehicles may be operating throughout the forest. Please drive with caution, be aware of changing road conditions, and adjust your driving accordingly.
I believe this is one of the best place for enduro riding along the east coast of Australia. There are endless purpose enduro single trails for easy to difficult grade through out the forest, most are pretty easy to locate if you have a keen eye. I've never found Sunny Corner to be busy and it is rare to come across other riders especially out the back of the state forest, away from the town and main camping area. There are various off road bike clubs that hold ride days out at Sunny Corner which is a good way to come and learn the area with experienced riders.
The Bathurst Region website says you can camp, have camp fires, four-wheel drive, mountain bike, dirt bike and hike in this area. If you're hoping for isolation and quiet, don't go here then complain about the four-wheel drivers or dirt bikers. Be considerate that this is a shared space. Camping areas are quiet but still close enough to the main road and about a 30minutes drive to the nearest town/pub. Can be VERY cold in winter, particularly with the lack of sunlight that reaches under the pine trees. Obviously no toilets or other facilities. Gorgeous warm light in the trees if you're looking for a nice spot for taking photos.
Sunny Corner State Forest has something to offer for all those that love the outdoors. Grab a state forest fossickers permit and try your luck at finding some gold. The plantation pines areas are pleasantly cool during the hot summer months, perfect for a family picnic with room for the kids to explore the great outdoors. During the winter months snow often falls covering the landscape in a blanket of white.
Good for dirt bikes and 4wds but not much else
Beautiful location for a walk amongst the pine plantation and some opportunities for walking through natural bush. Large forestry roads make it easy to walk with large groups. Facilities available at the Sunny Corner camp ground.
