About

Hahndorf is located in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia and is the oldest surviving Germanic settlement in Australia, founded 1839. Discover the charm and hospitality of this contemporary artisan village located just half an hour south-east of Adelaide. Explore more than one hundred shops, including a leathersmith, jeweller, brewery, wineries, distillery, chocolatier, German-style pubs, bakeries, restaurants and cafés.

The Peramangk people inhabited this area long before Hahndorf became the first settlement in Australia planned specifically for non-British immigrants, and you can visit galleries and museums featuring First Nations artwork and history.

The Cedars, the former home and studio of renowned landscape artist Sir Hans Heysen is just a few minutes out of the town centre, along Ambleside Road. Hahndorf Academy in Hahndorf's main street is a hub of creativity and heritage, with exhibitions, classes and an outstanding shop selling the work of local artists and designers.

Don't miss artisan beverage producers such as Somerled, La Prova, Sidewood, Ambleside Distillers, for handcrafted gin and masterclasses, and a little further afield The Lane Vineyard and Hahndorf Hill Winery.

Families love the Fairy Garden, Mini Golf, Hahndorf Farm Barn, Hamdorf cafe, and picking strawberries at Beerenberg Farm.

Hahndorf also offers a great range of accommodation, including luxury villas, BnBs, motels, and the Discovery Parks - Hahndorf resort.
