The Hill's Best Kept Secret: Why Bigger Isn't Better.
Tilbrook Estate is an artisan wine producer and eco-friendly cellar door between Lobethal and Lenswood. They stand proudly as the authentic soul of the Adelaide Hills. They don't have a slick marketing budget or a stream of tour buses. What they do have is a story of unyielding resilience and delicious cool-climate wines, made on-site by them.
Rebuilt by hand after the heartbreaking 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire, their family-run winery is the perfect antidote to crowded and impersonal cellar doors. When you visit, you'll get wines poured by the people who grew and made the wines, and enjoy authentic Spanish food made with love by Madrid-born Juan Gallego. In winter, warm yourself by the fire; in the warmer months, sit outside and soak up amazing views over the upper Onkaparinga Valley. They might be small, but their passion is unmatched!
They use no herbicides and only natural sprays on the vines, except in the worst years. The zero-net-carbon cellar door shows James and Annabelle's passion for sustainable building design and materials, as well as renewable energy and storage. They export three times what they use, ultimately bringing the carbon footprint down to zero. Its Scandinavian interior pays homage to Annabelle's Danish heritage.
