Weâve been regulars at The Swallowâs Nest for a while and love the pubâs beautiful locationâitâs truly a gem in Romsley. We visited on Good Friday, and as expected, it was very busy. The landlady told us to take a seat anywhere and that sheâd come and clean the table, which was appreciated.
However, the tables were in a very poor state. There were leftover plates and glasses everywhere, and unfortunately, this isnât just a one-off for busy days. In our experience, even when itâs quieter, the majority of tables are often dirty, which is disappointing for a pub of this calibre.
We ordered food at the bar, but while waiting, we had to ask twice for someone to clean our table. When our food finally arrived, I had to hold it while the staff cleaned the tableâsomething that shouldnât happen in a pub thatâs part of a reputable chain like Vintage Inns.
Itâs a real shame because the location and the atmosphere are fantastic, and with better attention to cleanliness and service, this could be a truly outstanding pub. At the moment, it feels like standards are being overlooked, relying on the fact that itâs a popular spot with little local competition. In other Vintage Inns around the Midlands, the standard of cleanliness and service is consistently excellent, and unfortunately, The Swallowâs Nest doesnât meet those expectations.
I hope management takes note because the pub has so much potential.

Canât comment on the food as we only popped in for a couple drinks in the beer garden.
Polite and friendly service from all the staff with a decent selection of drinks. Nice indoor and outdoor seating, a real effort made on the decor.
Signs that outdoor clear up may be a bit slow as there was a table with half empty plates in the outdoor seating area when we arrived and it hadnât been cleared when we left. This had of course started to attract the local wildlife, a magpie on this occasion.
Also worth considering the car park gets very busy during school drop off & pick up times as the parents of the local school use it, not always considerably with some woeful parking on show.

Such a lovely place! The lady who took our order was lovely and so helpful and the food was amazing! I struggled to eat it all! Afterwards we took our drinks outside in the lovely sunshine and took in the view âď¸

The nicest meal we have had for a while. Rib eye steak cooked to perfection. Shin of beef melted with wonderful spring onion mash. Meals nicely presented. We were served by Cameron who was polite, friendly and attentive. He gave faultless service despite a busy restaurant. Thank you

We arrived from a local campsite and the restaurant was fully booked but we were accommodated in the bar area. A lovely little nook after a long journey.
The food was excellent, service very attentive and friendly.
