Located just outside Quairading, Toapin Weir offers a peaceful and picturesque free camping spot for self-contained caravans, motorhomes and campers looking to experience the beauty of the Western Australian Wheatbelt.
More than just a scenic place to stay, Toapin Weir has a fascinating history. Built in 1912 around a natural granite rock outcrop, it was the largest and most comprehensive privately constructed reservoir and water scheme in Western Australia. Innovative landowner Jonah Parker commissioned experienced engineer T. C. Hodgson to design the weir to provide a reliable water supply for his property, the nearby town of Dangin and the railway.
In the 1930s, the weir wall was raised and the storage capacity expanded, allowing water to be supplied to Quairading and the surrounding district. Recognising its historical and engineering significance, Toapin Weir was entered on the State Register of Heritage Places in 2012.
Today, visitors can enjoy the tranquillity of this historic setting, with electric BBQ and toilet facilities available for your convenience. It's an ideal stop for travellers exploring the Wheatbelt or simply looking to relax and enjoy a peaceful country camping experience. Visitors are encouraged to help keep the area clean and enjoyable for everyone by taking rubbish with them and respecting the natural surroundings.
