Waitpinga is one of the Fleurieu Peninsula's wilder coastal pockets, where working farmland gives way to surf beaches, cliffs and open Southern Ocean views.
Around 85 kilometres south of Adelaide and just 15 minutes from Victor Harbor, the area is best known for Waitpinga Beach and Newland Head Conservation Park, where rugged coastline, mallee heath and walking trails create some of the most dramatic scenery on the southern Fleurieu.
Waitpinga Beach is a favourite with experienced surfers and surf fishers, while nearby Parsons Beach and the Waitpinga Cliffs form part of the Wild South Coast Way on the Heysen Trail. Strong rips and hidden gutters mean the beaches in Newland Head Conservation Park are not suitable for swimming.
For a different way to explore the landscape, Waitpinga Farm Quad Bike Adventures runs guided tours across a sixth-generation working farm, with routes through rolling hills, creek crossings and farmland overlooking Waitpinga Beach and the Southern Ocean.
Camping is available within Newland Head Conservation Park, making Waitpinga an easy base for walking, surfing, fishing and a few days closer to the elements.
