About

Middleton is a laid-back surf town on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, around 81 kilometres from Adelaide and perfectly placed between Goolwa and Port Elliot. Its long stretch of open coast is known for consistent waves, beach fishing and plenty of room to spread out.

Middleton Point is the local surf hub, with a rocky point that helps shape one of the area's most reliable breaks. Beginners can book surf lessons nearby, while more experienced surfers make the most of Southern Ocean swells.

In the cooler months, Middleton is also one of the Fleurieu's key whale-watching areas. Southern right whales migrate along this stretch of coast between roughly May and October, with Basham Beach among the region's recognised shore-based viewing spots.

The Encounter Bikeway passes through town, connecting Middleton with Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor along a 31-kilometre coastal route. Back in town, cafés, the bakery and local businesses make an easy stop between beach sessions.
